the above from an article in the Times, covering McCain's response response to their own report on his relationship with a lobbyist 8 years ago.
while a focus on limbaugh is not the point of the article, they included his quote at the end to show how staunch conservatives have reacted.
the us/them mentality of limbaugh et al really baffles me sometimes. i guess that sort of rhetoric is large part of what attracts his listeners.
maybe i'm being dramatic, but i feel like this sort of discussion IS NEVER beneficial. even in limbaugh's book, aren't liberals still americans, as in not enemies?

but it is a real competition and one side is the opposition.
rush says enemy, he uses that to drive home the seriousness of the point
i know we disagree on how to go about our political goals, but this is simply a explanation of limbaughs words.
unfortunately for him, whenever i read an argument like that, his tone distracts me from his words. by equating a rival political faction with "the enemy", (which i'm sure he would also call terrorists) he places my focus on his belligerent phrases. even if he wanted to make a good argument--which he is not--it would be lost. if he were to rest on the merits of his own argument rather than on the laurels of his loud, bombastic personality, i might be persuaded. or at least more willing to listen.
he doesn't and i'm not.
